Chemours Ti Pure R-902+

Chemours Ti Pure R-902+ titanium dioxide was developed from over 50 years of experience in durable exterior applications providing exceptional performance.

Products Information of Chemours Ti Pure R-902+

Rutile titanium dioxide can provide maximum protection for extended outdoor service life. However, not all grades of TiO2  are created equal. For durable polyolefin applications, Ti-Pure™ R-902+has the perfect combination of weatherability, optics, and processibil ity to meet the most exacting requirements.

Chemours Ti Pure R-902+ titanium dioxide has been specifically designed to achieve:

  • Maximum weather resistance

  • Bright, neutral whites

  • Color formulation flexibility

  • Superior processibil ity

Exceptional Durability

  • UV energy is absorbed and dissipated by the fine sized particles. Innovative silica encapsulation technology is used to impart a chemically inert coating on  each TiO2  particle to prevent microcracks, chalking, or other degradation of the plastic.

  • It improves the efficiency of UV stabilizers.

  • High gloss retention — polyolefin parts look and perform like new, longer.

Pin-point Color

  • With the unique combination of a neutral undertone, excellent opacity, and strong brightness, It is the easy solution for matching color tints or delivering bright, clean whites.

Low Volatility

  • At elevated temperatures, general grades of titanium dioxide can “de-volatil ize,” creating downstream quality issues like holes or other imperfections, particularly in thin film applications. To compensate, most users end up slowing down their process.

  • Resists “lacing” or “de-volatilization” and in the process, allows users to run faster.

Excellent Dispersibility

  • Flows easily and disperses readily into a variety of resins, insuring consistently and reliably, high quality products.

  • Its optimized surface chemistry enhances bulk flow and improves processing.

Chemours Ti Pure R-902+ – Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q1: What is the primary function of Ti Pure R-902+ in coatings and plastics formulations?

A: Ti Pure R-902+ is a surface-treated rutile titanium dioxide pigment engineered to deliver high opacity, excellent brightness, and strong UV scattering performance—particularly in demanding architectural, industrial, and plastic applications where durability and consistent whiteness are critical.

Q2: How does R-902+ differ from standard titanium dioxide pigments like R-902?

A: R-902+ features an enhanced dual-surface treatment optimized for improved dispersion stability and reduced particle agglomeration in both water-based and solvent-based systems. This results in better gloss retention, higher tint strength, and improved resistance to chalking compared to conventional grades.

Q3: Is Ti Pure R-902+ suitable for use in exterior architectural coatings?

A: Yes—R-902+ is specifically formulated for long-term exterior performance, offering superior resistance to UV degradation and weathering due to its robust inorganic surface treatment and optimized crystal structure.

Q4: What types of dispersion methods are recommended for optimal performance with R-902+?

A: High-shear dispersion using dissolvers, bead mills, or ultrasonic equipment is recommended to fully deagglomerate particles and maximize optical efficiency. Pre-wetting with compatible solvents or surfactants may further enhance stabilization in aqueous systems.

Q5: Can R-902+ be used in food-contact plastics?

A: Ti Pure R-902+ is not intended for direct food-contact applications. It is designed for general-purpose industrial and architectural uses; customers requiring food-contact compliance should consult Chemours for appropriate, regulatory-supported alternatives.
