Croda Adinol OT-72 Wetting Agent – Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q1: What is the primary function of Adinol OT-72 in industrial formulations?

A: Adinol OT-72 is a nonionic surfactant designed to rapidly reduce surface tension and enhance substrate wetting—particularly on low-energy or hydrophobic surfaces—improving coating uniformity, pigment dispersion, and overall formulation efficiency in water-based systems.

Q2: Is Adinol OT-72 compatible with other common surfactants and additives?

A: Yes, Adinol OT-72 exhibits broad compatibility with anionic, nonionic, and cationic surfactants, as well as common thickeners, defoamers, and biocides typically used in coatings, agrochemicals, and cleaning formulations—though compatibility testing under specific formulation conditions is recommended.

Q3: How does Adinol OT-72 perform in hard water or at varying pH levels?

A: As a nonionic surfactant, Adinol OT-72 maintains good stability and performance across a wide pH range (approximately pH 4–11) and is not significantly affected by common water hardness ions, making it suitable for use in diverse geographic and process conditions.

Q4: What types of applications benefit most from Adinol OT-72’s wetting properties?

A: It is especially effective in water-based industrial coatings, agricultural spray adjuvants, textile auxiliaries, and metalworking fluids—where rapid spreading, improved penetration into porous substrates, and reduced foam generation are critical performance requirements.

Q5: How should Adinol OT-72 be incorporated into a formulation for optimal results?

A: It is typically added during the let-down or post-addition stage of formulation, either neat or pre-diluted in water. Dosage depends on formulation requirements but generally ranges from 0.1% to 2% by weight of the total system, with optimization guided by application-specific performance testing.
