DuPont Surlyn® 8920 is a sodium-ion thermoplastic ionomer derived from ethylene methacrylic acid copolymer, with partial neutralization of methacrylic acid functional groups into sodium methacrylate. Processable into sheets and various shapes via conventional extrusion, injection molding and blow molding equipment, it integrates high strength, excellent wear resistance and outstanding low-temperature performance.
Excellent mechanical properties: tensile strength at break reaches 37.2MPa at 23℃, flexural modulus is 380MPa, and flexural modulus increases to 670MPa at -20℃, achieving a balance between toughness and rigidity.
Superior wear resistance: NBS wear index up to 640, far exceeding ordinary polyolefin materials, suitable for high-friction working conditions.
Good low-temperature impact resistance: tensile impact strength remains 345 ft-lb/in² at -40℃, avoiding embrittlement in low-temperature environments.
Optimal optical performance: haze is only 4% for 0.25-inch thick products, meeting the appearance requirements of transparent products.
Strong process adaptability: compatible with conventional extrusion, injection molding and blow molding equipment, with a maximum processing temperature of 285℃ and flexible molding process.
Blow molding: producing high-impact transparent containers and sports equipment shells, balancing appearance and durability.
Injection molding: manufacturing home appliance parts and automotive interior components, suitable for structural parts used in low-temperature environments.
Extrusion processing: producing high-wear-resistant sheets and pipes for industrial protection and food packaging fields.
Film products: preparing high-toughness packaging films to improve puncture and tear resistance of films.
Modification additives: serving as polyolefin modification raw materials to enhance the strength and wear resistance of substrates.
